A Hockey Tragedy

March 7, 2013

Please see the information below and help if at all possible...This was written by one of our Artic Fox Friends!

I don't usually do this, but I felt compelled.  I just got back from the Funeral of a 13 year old hockey player. Ryan Heitzenrater was a player on my Arctic Fox Squirt team 3 years ago.    We had a great team that year and won the Championship. This year he was on the Fox Bantam AA team. He and his family are awesome people.

In January, he came down with the flu.  He became dehydrated and was taken to the hospital.  (I've done this with my oldest son, probably as most of you guys have done). While in the hospital, a Virus attacked his organs.  His liver, lungs & pancreas. They called it HLH. (I hadn't heard of it)  He was induced into a coma and put on life support.  Ryan didn't make it, and passed away last Thursday.

The family, Doug & Debbie and older brother Brandon, have huge bills.   It cost almost $80,000/day for the Hospital stay. A website ( has been set up to help this family.  Anything you can give to this Hockey family will help them.  $5, $25, whatever you can do.

We are also running a number of fundraisers from the Arctic Fox Hockey organization.

Thanks friends.  (Hug your kids tonight)
